TRBO-6 IPSC Network

Why We Do NOT Use "All Call"

"All Call" is not your standard Talk Group

Motorola designed "All Call" to be a supervisory talk group.  "All Call" is heard by ALL Talkgroups on the Time Slot.  These unique properties over-ride all efforts for selective listening capabilities programmed into other user's modes (channels).  "All Call" over-rides the settings of "Rx Groups" to provide selective monitoring of other Talkgroups.  An analogy would be making every channel a "Priority" channel in a cheap police scanner, simulcasting 100% of the time on all Talkgroups or as if one turned PL decode off in a receiver and then listening to "carrier squelch" on a community repeater with a tone panel.  "All Call" is the only Talkgroup that enables a user to over-ride all  user's radios selective settings on a repeater or IPSC network.  It was designed to be much like field supervisor's channel to all the troops, which is certainly not to be routine or constant.

For these reasons and for slightly better network security, the "Comm" talkgroups were created as a replacement for "All Call".  So, "Comm 1" (TG ID #03777215) has replaced "All Call" on Time Slot 1 and "Comm 2" has replaced "All Call" on Time Slot 2.  "All Call" is NEVER to be used on Time Slot 2.  To be clear "Comm 1" and "Comm 2" are two distinct talkgroups and are only to be used on their matching Time Slots.  There are benefits to having these talkgroup "pairs" and we have several "pairs" authorized for network use on both Time Slots.

Currently, "Comm 1" is the standard entry point into the TRBO-6 Network.  This means that the "Comm 1" talk group is used on time slot 1 (only) for all normal communications on our main networked "channel" or "mode".

"All Call" should NOT be used on Time Slot 1.  If your local repeater has IPSC enabled on Time Slot 2, then  again, do not use "All Call" on Time Slot 2 either.  See: Repeater List to learn if your local repeater has network traffic on Time Slot 2.  Only a few repeaters have IPSC enabled on Time Slot 2.  Some local owners may allow the use of "All Call" if they have a local only Time Slot 2.  You should check with the local owner first before using "All Call."

If you do not have "Comm" talkgroups in your radio, then "All Call" is permitted for now only on Time Slot 1 but PLEASE make an effort to have "Comm 1" and/or "Comm 2" added to your radio.  More details are available in the member area, including the latest User's Codeplug that has the complete setup for the network, less your local freq and color code.
